Just taken a look at her playlist. It's not too encouraging, is it.

Saturday Classics some while back? A mix of classical and 6M-style http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b04dqbf8 (Episode 1).

What you can see is that if you Google the programmes, they're posted on various non-BBC sites (Facebook) &c. The points to investigate are whether this brings listeners to Radio 3 to listen to Mary Anne Hobbs (presumably yes); and whether they are encouraged in fact (not 'potentially') to listen to more classical music, perhaps of a kind that is beyond MAH's selection/experience.

As to the second, I don't know. I pose the question.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I'm not aiming to be a cheerleader for this slot but at least the Copland piece played was not a "usual suspect". Tomorrow is going to be Debussy and Poulenc apparently.

.....and I would think there will be RVW. He was, I thought, much more interesting to listen to than Lady
              P. Not hard I know.......

EC came good again today - or rather I timed my run serendipitously well. After the pleasures of Richter's 'Waldszenen' last week on a relatively spring-like morning, today the first snow of the winter, lying all around through the parks in London... and as I turned into the first one on the bike, Shostakovich 11 started: that brooding first movement the perfect soundtrack!

Working remotely, antonio, working remotely - concentrating furiously on my emails... as I was throughout the weekend, having been on duty. Having to have the jacket on the office chair is a thing of the past, a great boon of the 21st century!

                    Maconie's choices look rather good.

The non boon about working from home is that one's home becomes not a place of relaxation and sanctuary but a place of work . I sit in my study looking yearningly at the park out of the window .

It's true but in my line of work, the ability to deal with things efficiently with minimal disturbance vastly outweighs that, for me - I find it aids relaxation rather than the contrary.
