Should add that I don't at all think that such experiments aren't worth doing (or aren't enjoyed by some/many Radio 3 listeners). Just that it's basically a gimmick where Radio 3 promotes itself across the various services in the hope of hooking more people who don't really 'know much about classical music' - good excuse to stick with the famous and gentle pieces that they'll enjoy.
Am I correctly informed that a tweet was read out this morning that JSB was 'dreary and samey'? Cometh the audience, goeth the knowledge? It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I have caught a bit of his interviews. Not very inspiring, though RC seems to have got Ron Shafferty syndrome......."...the isle is full of noises,

Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

But is it what I'd tuned into R3 for? NO! There are other radio stations for that. Do Radio 1 or Live365 http://www.live365.com/index.live#st...djhearticaltee etc play Telemann or Schumann sometimes? Personally I'd like to see a concerted attack on the R3 facebook page, if only to cause maximum embarrassment. It would be hard for the BBC hierarchy, or the media, to ignore if everyone on here posted intelligent, critical responses to their cultural vandalism.
So far, I see only one comment to the blog referred to in post #1004. http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/radio3/posts/Bacons-Classics

Actually, comparatively few listeners post on the Facebook page either, and when did we last see an adverse Twitter comment retweeted? A large proportion of the Facebook 'likers' appear to be based abroad, and most of those who are in the UK are the serial likers who 'Like' everything. It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. I caught that snippet - turned on, realised it was Varese so stayed listening (thinking it was unusual for EC) and the following interview greatly amused me as well - can't remember verbatim but along the lines of "Well, whoever the composer is - he's having a laugh at our expense isn't he?"
