Of course. And I was not so put out to be hearing something that I would rather not. I was just a bit surprised to hear something quite so cliched even by playlist program standards. But I concede that I should not be so surprised.

While he doesn't confirm that one is most unlikely to hear many substantial items, the implication is clear.

I'm ready to be corrected, but I recollect reading or hearing that in the late 1950s/early 1960s the only Mahler available on record was the Adagietto from the 5th symphony.

I feel pretty sure that Adler's 3rd and Flipse's 8th were to be had, among others.
