Saturday "Breakfast" was the one morning I used to allow R3 to grace the airwaves of B-o-D Towers but this morning will be the last and it will be forever banished to the Land of Silence. Nearly every piece of music came from the 100 Best Tunes

Saint-Saens: Danse Macabre
Rodrigo: Concerto de Aranjuez (bleeding chunk)
Walton: Belshazzar's Feast (bleeding chunk)
Handel: Royal Fireworks
Ravel: Piano Concerto in G Major (bleeding chunk)

It was this last piece that finally made me turn off. The Ravel was a concerto I had dearly loved for many years but it has been so overplayed on R3 that I have become bored by it.

And looking at tomorrow's playlist brings us
Allegri's Miserere
Vivaldi's Two Mandolin Concerto (oh good grief!)
Grieg: Piano Concerto (bleeding chunk)
Tchaikovsky: Capriccio Italien
Satie: Gymnopedie
Bernstein: Wonderful Town

I tuned in part-way through the Rodrigo - 1st thought - what again? 2nd thought - bet it's a BC!
Looks like we need a plea for Clemency - 1 Play Full Works!!!! 2 Play less lazily chosen pieces.
Tomorrow's fare looks like more miserere!

One has to bear in mind who the presenter is. Given today it was CBH, the programme is targetted to appeal to the metro set, flicking through their Saturday supplements, imbibing their cappucini and croissants; with some lovely, undemanding musical fare somewhere in the background.

I have my doubts whether the producers' thinking is so. Shame that the idea of retaining a loyal audience no longer seems to figure.

Yes that ever-diminishing R3 loyal audience, the most infuriating part is that these playlists are CFM fare - and the powers that be claim they're no on the poach!

Then - he said so and so from wherever (I will not post the name in case they belong to this Forum!) had requested a harp piece by wossisname to be played at 8.45 - and, he played it!! I do hope Breakfast will not turn into a Request Show .....

Surprised he didn't receive a load of requests for 8.59! By the way there's been some not bad stuff on EC this week, a rare live recording of siegfried Idyll CO Szell sounded really good!

That was the second broadcast of Siegfried Idyll within a week. It was a pity, to my mind, that both were played in a version for large orchestra. This is a work that has rather more "edge" when played with just one instrument per part (as at the first performance).

Which was the other played?
I like Solti's chamber-sized version.
My point really is that Rob doesn't just randomly grab a version off the shelves, which is probably one of the few saving graces of EC.
