Actually, it seems a pretty good week of works. Tuesday there is Peter Warlock, who I really don't know at all. Something next week, looking at the RT listings, to get enthused about, although maybe a bit too heavy on the Messiaen?

the whole of Respighi's Gli uccelli suite this morning
one movement would have been quite sufficient (IMO)

Afraid I don't agree mercia. I've put it on 'What are you listening to now' as I was delighted to listen to a COMPLETE 20 min work and imo a good choice for early in the day.

Then she introduced "Tonight" from West Side Story as by Natalie Wood. I thought NW didn't sing, but maybe her vocal chords were faked by Marni Nixon - or did I get that wrong?

It seems increasingly clear to me that the 'your call' feature is to give them an excuse to play stuff they were going to play anyway. This morning it was Rhapsody in Blue!!!! again!!!!!!

Why don't we ring in en masse, ask for (say) Webern's 5 Orchestral Pieces and see if any of our calls are responded to? I suppose, though, that if they agreed they would play only the one that lasts for six bars!

They will be calling it the full works concert next (CFM)

it's just a gimmick - the powers that be have no interest whatsover of any 'true' dialogue with listeners - what you see + hear is just another example of the pepsification of culture - mass marketed for infantalised consumers

Exactly, why encurage them to play short pieces, now why do we ring in en masse requesting Mahler 3 or Shostakovich 7, insisting that nothing other than the full work will do, as that is how we know them. Mmm Mahler 3, no Petroc babble for 96 minutes!

Now that Chiles and Bleakely have been dropped from "Daybreak" (a televisual programme for the lower orders) after the rating's slumped, perhaps a similar purge can be expected at 3beebies?

More likely they'll recruit Chiles if he's now free.

At least we wouldn't have to look at him, though his voice is bad enough.

This morning I ate my harsh words! The chap who phoned in asked for - and got - all of Dukas's La Péri, including the fanfare. Praise where praise is due.
