On another thread someone has posted up a vomit smiley. We were also referred to to a website where inter alia there are toilet smileys and violent smileys. All of the above seem entirely appropriate to Breakfast. I've been away on a longish holiday, and had the misfortune to tune in once where listeners were being invited to discuss the Brontes. The level of discussion might be exemplified by one message, "I've never read any Bronte". Now back home, the discussion this morning revolved around storing fruit. Finzi, as a lover of apples, was mentioned...but no Finzi was played so I fail to see the relevance. Mrs Ardcarp was moved to say, "What the **** has this **** got to do with music?" What indeed. The instruction has clearly once again come from on high to presenters to make the programme even more chatty. The result has been to render otherwise intelligent, well-informed presenters as gibbering, tongue-tied idiots. Our local radio station does the chat better, and believe me, that is saying something.
More smileys needed for Breakfast

I don't know about more smileys.
I'm hoping people will listen to the new programmes critically and that we can have a sensible, reasoned discussion about the highs and the lows ...It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I find that if I am setting out to listen to it for a reason - to gain an objective view of what's happening - rather than switching on in the normal way expecting congenial listening, it doesn't annoy in the same way. Though I don't expect to listen again, once I've made my notes
Then again, I may be wrong! It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
