From the commentary, it was snow, which is, of course, made of ice.

....snow shmow....tis proper texture in the landscape....crispy rather than crunchy...and still irritating eh...

....these interludes are sent in [often] by listeners....so out with your recorder and send in a recording of that annoying drip from a gutter onto gavanised dustbin lid....

The 'Saturday sound' which turned me off, some months ago , was someone's frying pan sizzling, which somebody in the BBC seemed to think was Radio3 material.

...I remember in my late 20's walking from Westonmouth nr Sidmouth to Branscombe [2 miles maybe] on rolling unstable pebble....the fatigue the slipping and sliding, the trudge trudge in a zig zag - gravity taking you down, and having to pull up again to avoid the waves....Oh the noise of the footfall on and on and on for 45 minutes - and the marvellous quiet when grass was broached at Branscombe....

Ditto, with a vengeance. (Incidentally, kb, private messages are also currently a no-no there - yer inbox needs a clear out!)

The ‘sound collages’ on Sunday mornings (listened to here at other times of day) don’t bother me. What does is the intrusive tendency to advertise TV programmes. The trails for the Six Nations rugby programming were annoying enough… but the worst was when some pleasant piece was followed by shouts of “ARMED POLICE, ARMED POLICE!!” in an advert for some TV cop show. How idiotic and cloth-eared can it get?
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Sounds like the aural equivalent of studying your washing go round in the washing/watching machine. If I'm really attentive I can catch a nuance of red - my fleece jacket; and there go my jeans. Definitely more rewarding than watching paint dry. Way to go, R3!

A problem? You have 168 stored messages and the Hosts' quota is 250 so there shouldn't be any difficulty.

I've sent you a test message and it hasn't been returned.

All now seems to be in order. Perhaps one of those 'Chinese' balloons was responsible.
