    Sunday Morning - enticing / exhilarating / inviting / energising / rousing...

This is a comment about Sunday Morning tag lines, not Sarah Walker / Roderick Williams / Ian McMillan / Kate Molleson... or programme content.

Looking at the R3 "Sunday Morning" listings, I was struck by how repetitive / unimaginative / banal the tag lines had becoming - basically "[PRESENTER] with a(n) [WORD] musical mix", e.g. "Sarah Walker with an exhilarating musical mix".

I suspect there's some tiny bot creating them from a very limited pool - I wish I could edit it
So here's a quick analysis (back to Oct 2019, before which Composers' names usually appeared):

    • exhilarating 6
    • inviting 6
    • energising 5

      Courtesy Roget's Thesaurus, no doubt. Repetitive, uniform, homologous, similar, fixed, undeviating, unvarying, invariable;
      unimaginative, imitative, unthinking, undiscriminating,unintelligent, dull

      &c &c

Thank you, Bryn - I managed two minutes of that!
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

A suggestion for Sunday Morning? It would certainly get me moving

Chambers would add mechanical, monotonous, recurrent, tedious...

Come on Auntie, show a leg - forget Sounds and update the webpages with more imagination.

I think they save that for the adverts for the bits and bobs dumbtime efforts?

The point is that all these words are subjective anyway. If they tell us it's enticing &c, that's what we'll think, isn't it?

That's what they hope. I think I'm not alone in reacting negatively to such tactics, presumably because as you say they are subjective terms - and also I don't like being told what I should think.

Yes - I'm thoroughly brainwashed and believe everything they say

Going back to composer's names would entice (or repel) me more, though.

It reminds me of my brother trying to persuade 5-year-old son to eat his peas. "But these aren't ordinary peas: these are Delicious Peas!")

I love the capitals - I can almost hear them.
                        Did it work with sprouts?

Said in the style of the M&S food adverts? Which reminds me one of the more recent R3 adverts has adopted that style, so queasiness (it sounds sinister to me) has been added to irritation if I can't get to the mute button quickly enough.

In my days as a science student we were once told by a prof that when writing papers we should "never use an adjective that could be replaced by 'bloody'".

A little bit of the Hemingway attitude to adjectives would not come amiss.
