    Joan Trimble on Essential Classics

Buttermilk Point, a Gaelic folk tune (I think) was arranged for 2 piamos by the N.Irish pianist Joan Trimble.

It occurred about 1hr30min into Essential Classics today: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m000vycv

It started off their listeners' 'playlist' session. Whilst I knew of Joan T. in the past as a fairly awesome pianist, I had no idea she had a gift for composing/arranging. Today's offering was not only technically brilliant (as one might expect) but amazing in its handling of keys, harmonies and textures. Really worth a listen. It's quite short.

BTW was a relative of hers a prominent N.I. politician at some point?

Thanks for the link to an enjoyable piece by someone I'd not previously heard of.

By luck I heard this - the only item I was present for. I remember Joan Trimble. I don't think she was related to David Trimble or we should certainly have heard. She played along with her sister and composed for two pianos, as well as works for the Irish National Orchestra. Joan Trimble was highly regarded in Ireland and could hold her own in any survey of women composers. I wish I had taken the trouble to appreciate her when she was around.
