    TtN - Clara Haskil

    Pity that most of the first movement of K595 was missed because of the Kennedy Prom overrun last night. It seems to be sod's law that when people are particularly looking forward to an item it gets messed up. But R3's priorities are what they are, and it's more to be lamented than complained of. Perhaps they'll fit a repeat in in the coming weeks. Jonathan???

    The better news is that next Fri/Sat - 12/13 August, there's more Haskil:

      I don't think they'd ever do that - though they might shelve it for a few weeks if it couldn't be played in full.
      It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

          True, but they didn't drop or cut the programme, did they.

          And they don't have a huge amount of Clara Haskil either. I think she was the main attraction of the truncated item. But, as I made clear, I was greeting it with stoical resignation not complaint. And displaying a sunny anticipation towards next week's programme

              Surely its not rocket science in 2011, to adjust a pre-recorded sequence to adjust it to accommodate the full concerto by omitting a shorter work. Laziness is the word which comes to mind. I do hope the Haskil Klemperer performance will be reprogrammed, after all they seem to recycle items on TTN!

                They can't do that on the hoof because it's a computerised system which is going to a number of European countries and the links in various languages have all been prerecorded. Even if it were technically possible, it would be a nightmare to get every country's sequence rejigged.

                What I think would be a sensible move is always to start the sequence with a shorter work which could be easily omitted - and then start with the major work. This has happened in the past (often on a Friday) with the first movement of a symphony or concerto lost.

                Some countries used to offer TtN (aka Euroclassic Notturno) on LA, so it might be possible to hear the whole work somewhere on the net. If anyone finds it, let us know!

                  I have always wondered why R3 doesn't have an " Artist of the Week " programme akin to Composer of the Week - maybe they did in the distant past but as the history of recorded music grows ever longer so many great artists are in danger of being forgotten as their recordings slip out of the catalogue and the people who saw and heard them play pass on .

                    I don't think it would be 'rocket science' for the iPlayer team to use the full computerized playlist for the on demand ('listen again') offering.
