I hope the suits spluttered their coffee down them when Ian announced his impending kicking off EC!

It'll be good to have him presenting the afternoon concerts and hopefully he'll still be able to get in his quips.

I must admit, though, to not being a regular EC listener and appreciate that some of you will miss IS on the programme (show?) I tend to listen to R3 more in the afternoons.
Me too, though in my case it’s ‘never listen to EC’. Unfashionably (in the context of this thread), I’m delighted IS will be turning up in the afternoons, free of ‘slow moments’ & other gimmickry. Pleased for him, too, that he’ll get a few lie-ins

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
      Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

He gets lie-ins every other fortnight, and as regards being free of gimmickry, do we have any evidence that he sees removal from EC as something wanted and welcomed? It's not the impression given by his announcement on Monday.

No indeed, I was merely saying that from my own point of view, he will be a welcome addition to afternoon broadcasting on Radio 3!

As someone who listens frequently to the afternoon concerts I will also be happy to hear him there, but I wish it wasn't at the expense of his morning slot which I, and I think many others, very much enjoy, thanks to his quirky approach. SK may be professional and I'm sure has many fans but she plays safe and doesn't bring anything to the format or content as far as I'm concerned.

Just managed to read that. "The BBC said that the change was nothing to do with age." Well, sort of, in that they want to attract 'younger women in the 35-45 age group', so I'm told … Interesting that it seems they whacked out that press release very quickly. I have informed my friend Alan that I thought it a 'perfect object lesson in disingenuous equivocation'. Apparently he was very chastened by that

Well, to be perfectly honest, gouldie, all I suspect is that he has seen and read it. I didn't immediately get an autogenerated message saying he was out of the office but that he would have received it if addressed to him personally (something like that, forgotten exactly from the past). I only really wrote because someone 'of some prominence in the arts world' contacted me - I suspect they also contacted the press. I don't expect a contrite response
