It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I'm so pleased that the enterprise has been curated.
We'd be lost if it weren't.

The features have been curated by Paul Hindmarsh who was invited to select music for the programmes each day.
PS for Pedants' Paradise: As opposed to being curated by Paul Hindmarsh who was NOT invited ........

Sounds good - I love the reference to B&R’s recording having been made in their West Riding home - it’s only 47 years since the West Riding was an entity - as a former employee of WRCC - it’s demise was lamented on the fringes of every town and city in the county !

Why has the word curated taken over from selected ? Are we supposed to be impressed ? Why do cliches get so quickly embedded in our culture?

The thought of Mr Skelly going is bad enough but even worse is the thought of who might be his replacement. It won't be anyone with his slightly subversive approach that's for sure. I do wonder also what changes might be made to the programme as a consequence - " opportunity to re-assess the format", " how best to meet the needs of our listeners" and other such like management-speak phrases that send chills down the spine and heart to boots. It may be rubbish, shunned and decried by many R3 devotees - but I doubt that any who do listen will believe that changes could be for the better, given the recent track record of changes. I wouldn't put it past management to think that some version of the Jorja/Celeste disaster is the way to go.

An attempt to indicate that an element of thought went into the items, to produce a cohesive whole? Rather than the reality of pick and mix.

I agree Skelly somehow seems quietly subversive. Can see how that would make the powers that be uneasy.

I think it’s the wrong metaphor .I associate curation with museums and art galleries . Music should not be thought of in those terms. It is a live art form where centuries old work is recreated and has life breathed into it through the skills and talents of performers . Oh yes and there’s a lot of good new work as well...

... that sounds pretty binary and exclusive. Hasn't the beeb woken up to the fact that it's 2021?

                          .
From my understanding of Employment legislation there is no requirement for the BBC or any another employer to alternate rotas between the genders.

I was being ironic, apologies for not indicating that, but I still think there's an element (possibly quite a large one) of truth in it. I agree with you about museum/art gallery association, not least because I have a (real) curator colleague ...

When I see the word "curated" used in relation to a musical event, an egg of a certain questionable condition springs to mind.

Apologies for missing the irony . Still reeling at Skellers departure tbh...
Now he’s playing the trio from Der Rosenkavalier...might have to lie down.
