Here's what we missed this morning. Available in full to our European friends, e.g. Swedish radio

01:01 Ludwig van Beethoven; String Quartet in E minor, Op 59 no 2 "Rasumovsky"; Australian String Quartet
01:38 Carl Nielsen; Quintet for wind (Op.43); Cinque Venti
02:03 Antonio Vivaldi; Kyrie eleison in G minor for double choir and orchestra (RV.587); Choir of Latvian Radio, Riga Chamber Players, Sigvards Klava (conductor)
02:13 Bohuslav Martinu; 3 Czech dances for piano; Anastasia Vorotnaya (piano)
02:22 Giovanni Battista Pergolesi; Violin Sonata in G major; Peter Michalica (violin), Elena Michalicova (piano)
02:30 Blagoje Bersa; Capriccio-Scherzo Op 25c (1902); Croatian Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra, Mladen Tarbuk (conductor)
02:39 Gaspar Sanz; Marizapalos; Eduardo Egüez (guitar)
02:45 Oskar Merikanto; Summer night waltz (Op.1) & Summer night idyll (Op.16 No.2); Eero Heinonen (piano)
02:51 Joan Baptista Pla i Agusti; Sonata in C major for flute, violin and basso continuo; La Guirlande

    Info from https://www.ebu.ch/files/live/sites/...ber%202021.pdf

I have to admit that the start of residual 4 hours of TTN wasn't really to my taste - the Bach was good though.
Never heard of Eric Whitacre, but apparently he's a "Grammy-winning composer" and "one of the most popular musicians of his generation".

There are those who would say "lucky you" to have avoided Whitacre thus far! I'm not that keen but I do think he has served a useful purpose in getting an audience who wouldn't perhaps have otherwise done so listening to choral music of some sort , and also providing amateur choirs with a challenge - and one that they can risk as there will be an audience for it. I don't turn off when his music comes on but neither do I switch on on purpose to listen.

Thanks for the information oddoneout - shows how out of touch I am.

Looking at the R3 schedules for 25/9/2021, I got very excited - could Saturday be back to 6 hours, starting at 1am?
Sadly, I think it's just an error as the Bach doesn't start until 3am.

It's another of those "missing 2 hours" sneaky happenings that we've seen before? The previous programme ends at 1-00 hence presumably the start time of 1-00 for TTN - but as you say the music begins 2 hours later. Which as ever begs the question, if they don't have any new dumbtime ready or they're going to default to repeats, then why not put on proper TTN fare instead?

Yes, "6 hours" of TTN should keep the carpers quiet for a while - until we've worked out exactly what we'll put in those 'spare' two hours before TTN begins.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Should that have ended with an evil laugh?

Auntie has updated the Saturday 25/9/2021 TTN listings again - now with 6 hours worth of programmes listed, starting at 1am!!!!!!!!!
Does this see the end of the drivel???? Or, is it yet another cruel hoax?
We shall see... Cue French Frank's evil laugh

Compared to EBU Notturno - we have all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order.
(The earlier R3 listing was missing the last 2 hours of EBU notturno, Brahms - Fasch.)

Nothing unusual about that aspect. The order of play often varies between the BBC's TtN and other EN subscriber broadcasters. More a case of not being the "same", rather than the "right" order, I think.

Yes, you're right, it's not "right". But accuracy would have spoilt the EM quote and upset Mr Preview

Fingers crossed that this really is the penultimate lost two hours.

01:01 Salamone Rossi; Hebrew Psalms and Instrumental Canzonas; Ars Cantus, Tomasz Dobrzanski (director)
01:47 Igor Stravinsky; Suite Italienne for violin and piano (1933); Narek Hakhnazaryan (cello), Oxana Shevchenko (piano)
02:06 Antonin Dvorak; Notturno in B major, Op 40; Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Jan Stanienda (conductor)
02:13 Fryderyk Chopin; Rondo in C major, Op 73; Ludmil Angelov (piano)
02:22 Matthias Schmitt; Ghanaia for percussion; Colin Currie (percussion)

02:38 Pieter Hellendaal; Solo (sonata) for cello and continuo Op 5 No 1 in G major (1780); Jaap ter Linden (cello), Ageet Zweistra (cello), Ton Koopman (harpsichord)
02:47 Claude Debussy; La cathédrale engloutie; Claude Debussy (piano)
02:52 Johan Svendsen; Norwegian artists' carnival Op.14; Norwegian Radio Orchestra, Ari Rasilainen (conductor)
                            Info from https://www.ebu.ch/files/live/sites/...ber%202021.pdf

The Salamone Rossi & Pieter Hellendaal were excellent and new to me. The Debussy piano roll "La cathédrale engloutie" was a pleasant surprise.

Positive signs that Saturday's TTN will be back to 6 hours in just over a week
The 24th September TTN is still 6 hours, the rest of that week's schedule seems to have been filled in, and the 2nd October TTN is 6 hours starting at 1am.

(That's saved me from the temptation of augmenting a certain photo with a feather boa...)
