They don't seem to be repeats - the programme pages don't indicate previous broadcasts and the programme pids (the 8-character string at the end of each URL) are all in the current series, beginning 'm001'. (The last programme, in March, had PID m000t75w.)

Good point. Although, I think I've seen PIDs redirect / change in the past. (The old PIP codes seemed more stable )

Yes, the PIDs could change at the last minute. The proof will be in the playlists, I suppose.

I didn't dare turn on the radio at 2.30 this morning... only discovering when switching on at 2.59 that Jonathan had been there all along. Is this the thing they call paranoia?

No, at that time in the morning it's justifiable wariness!

It can't get much worse. Or can it?

There was a regular R3 Saturday hour that looks vaguely similar. Grauniad article from 2019.

The Sound of Gaming was last on on 2 October. When it started ithe programme was presented, and with guest composers; the new version just another mixtape, then. Still, fair enough, there's no In Tune mixtape on a Saturday
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I thought video games were now viewed as A Bad Thing, along with ads for gambling and junk food before the watershed - which I thought were due to be banned by the end of September...? Several online gambling ads were shown on Channel 5 this morning, so I guess I must have dreamed this.

                      You bet you did!

Oh and why are mixtapes so called when all they are are computer playlists?

Games that allow gambling and "loot boxes" where children can spend large sums of money are regarded as A Bad Thing. Don't suppose playing the music without the games is harmful: not sure that it's more than marginally interesting, though.

That isn’t the case with the In Tune Mixtape, for a start. I know one of the producers, who thinks very hard about her programmes. Whether or not you appreciate it is a matter for you.

That was not my point - I’m not questioning the thought process in compilation it is just that I don’t think they use TAPES nowadays, and the final result a Computer playlist!

Sadly, however hard the producer thinks about each mixtape, it seems wasted on a feature which will be, for the most part, no more than background listening for those who like to listen. Do the listeners really think about the changes from one piece to the next and think: "Wow, that's clever/skilful/creative/subtle/enlightening!"? Love's Labour's Lost.

"Mixtapes in today's music industry are basically a compilation of songs, whereas an album is *typically* a higher quality, more structured story."

"Playlists are deliberate in connotation whereas mixtapes can be made by just some dad recording over a radio broadcast. "

I'm not saying those were accurate definitions - just the way younger people think of them, which is the point I'm making.

Yes, it does seem an odd choice.
If the game music is without a presenter (?), what will be next - "Lift muzak memories", "on-hold Vivaldi compo", Beethoven's variations on "your call is important to us"?
