Agree with all of that, on hearing her again this morning. But her mid-word consonants also are very clear, with no elision of syllables. (Elsewhere on the BBC terrorist has widely become terrist, for example.) Danelle has a really clear style, a very good example of what used to be called RP (received pronunciation).

Elizabeth Alker had obviously neither heard of her nor prepared herself this morning, as her name came out as ‘Danielle Ja-Jawovski’. The silence before Danielle started reading the news was palpable. She obviously then used the two minute bulletin to have a little practice, and made a point of getting it right afterwards.

This particular gaffe has also been mentioned on the 'Breakfast Debate' thread, together with a helpful tip for Miss/Mrs/Ms Alker.

          Hadn’t spotted that - thanks.

I'm so glad I found this thread! I've been trying to find out her name for ages! I've heard Danielle many times over the last few months, mostly reading the news on Breakfast, but increasingly as a presenter between programmes. She's been doing that this afternoon. She has the most lovely, clear voice - I wish they'd give her a full regular programme of her own.

Danielle pops up now on Radio 3 Continuity, World Service overnight News - and then this weekend Radio 4 Continuity and reading the shipping bulletin. Her crystal clear enunciation is a delight (not unlike that wonderful Radio 4 man, now long retired). I hope she gets time to sleep, and to play the recorder...!

Danielle can sometimes be heard simultaneously on both R3 weekend continuity and the WS news; this is because the former is pre recorded at weekends. Ditto John Shea and Chris Berrow, both of whom provide pre-recorded R3 continuity and read the news over on the WS.

I haven't heard Danielle's voice for some months now - but thought I possibly heard her on continuity late on Sunday night.

She tweeted this on 23 March
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

She's back this afternoon: good to hear the clarity of her speech.

I'm used to her now, and I find she's fitting in well with the others. Her voice is much better that that of some other recent Radio 3 announcers.

If I have a criticism, it's that I'd appreciate more knowledge . Maybe this will come in time; I miss the historical depth Jonathan Swain, say , seems to have at his fingertips. For example, we had Beethoven's E minor sonata 'played by Xaver Scharwenka'. Since it was a modern recording, though an old-fashioned performance (plenty of left-hand before right) , and Scharwenka died in 1924 without,so far as I know , making any gramophone recordings, it was presumably a piano roll. It would have been helpful to be told that, in case anyone thought Scharwenka was a present-day pianist and assesssed his performance accordingly.

I've noticed that Danielle is now pronouncing her surname on air in the Polish style - so with a 'w' sound not an 'l' sound.

Perhaps we should honour this by spelling her name Jałowieska?

Though Jałowiecka seems to be commonest form of the name. Yawovietska not Djallowiekka.
