    Composer of the Week 19/5/2020

Is Beethoven going to be the COTW every other week? Enough already! Although usually an excellent presenter of this programme, today Donald MacCleod's voice just made me feel so depressed..........as much as Beethoven apparently was but please lighten up Donald. Sounds like you're delivering a funeral oration. We all need a lift in these difficult times.........now I must go and watch some Laurel and Hardy to cheer myself up!

Yes, and they haven't all been sombre, and I would hazard a guess that neither will the rest be. It is a project that divided forum - presumably wider - opinion from the off.

I thought Macleod delivered the words with beauty and sensitivity, with his usual perfectly cadenced meanings. I'm not sure how an upbeat approach could possibly suit a recounting of this devastating episode of Beethoven's life...

As for Beethoven, right now I can never have too much... and sombre tales do match the sombre times....as you noted, plenty of choice out there if you desire something other....

There is a whole thread on these 26 programmes, Paulie.
