You're right, the sour grapes metaphor was wrong - I withdraw it. Huffing and puffing was quite enough of an accusation.

I too wish there had been a 'proper competition' this year, let's hope it returns next year - I just took exception to the jeering.

Crikey, just listened to the 'big six'.

      Emetic tat, IMO.

I think you need a rapid antidote in the form of Choral Evensong from Hereford Cathedral . Handily there appears to be one available ....

The magnificent singing from the Gesualdo Six
                1) merits a separate thread
                2) erases all memories of any one or two earlier “carol” programmes
                3) these really are the “big six” that DracoM refers to upthread

I do try not to get into the classical/R3 apartheid war but I really don't see why this is on R3. It doesn't seem the best way to get what I assume is the intended audience - although I'm not sure if that is yoof or non R3. Do fans of Jess and now Katie really cross hell and high water to follow them,do the powers of twitter overcome the dangers of venturing into alien territory? Would an 'easy-listening' non-R3 audience even find this?
As there are some pieces in the programme that I like I will probably have this on, at least to start with, but it may go off again fairly quickly, depending on what the cringe/irritation factor level gets to.

It’s “interesting” that Friday night on Radio 3 has pretty much become Friday Night Is Music Night fare or Jazz . Radio 2 seems to be divesting itself of that in favour of 70’s , 80’s pop. I would love to know whether it’s done anything for R3’s 7-30 audience figures . As for myself I think I ‘ll be streaming the Royal Opera Christmas concert,

I know this isn't very seasonal, but I've only just caught up with the end result, having lost interest because of the dumbed-down format.

What is the Forum panel verdict on this year’s offerings as played on Petroc’s programme this morning - I only heard 3 to 6 but those I sampled would not cause offence, stir the imagination or challenge the choristers!

                                Predictable.
