    Judi Dench on Breakfast

I am fully aware that the real Sally Bowles was not as gifted an artist or singer as Liza Minnelli but Judi Dench's interpretation of the title song this morning was just painful. This is not something I would care to experience again and I have always felt that, despite being a good actress, Judi Dench has always been overrated, IMHO.

For what it's worth - Stephen Sondheim's favourite rendition of 'Send In the Clowns' was that by Judi Dench. To describe her as a 'good' actress might be regarded by some as a tad mean-spirited.

I thought I had the LP with Send in the Clowns with Hermione Gingold, but it was probably Glynis Johns who sang it - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-HeczMstwS4 I do have the LP - somewhere.

However, Hermione Gingold has a fun comment on another character in the show - another song - https://youtu.be/LKUuGtkbzC8

Perhaps Judi Dench would be better as Gingold's character, but let's be kind.

Liasons - https://youtu.be/YE52zPJsCLc - the song without the spoken intro.

I never saw the Sondheim show - maybe I should look out for it if there's a revival.

Postscript: Re last comment: having just watched a few Youtubes, including Regina Resnik, Angela Lansbury etc. - perhaps I won't bother.

I actually quite enjoy hearing Judi Dench's said rendition of 'Send In the Clowns'.
