Chris Evans to host Radio 3 Breakfast

The BBC has announced that Virgin Radio’s Chris Evans is to become Radio 3’s sole Breakfast presenter from July 2019. A Radio 3 spokeswoman said the appointment is a direct response to the appearance of the new classical radio station, Scala Radio, who have employed ex-Radio 2 presenter, Simon Mayo.

Evans commented that despite his recent move from Radio 2 to Virgin Radio, he still felt great loyalty to the BBC, and would introduce classics such as McCartney’s Liverpool Oratorio, Standing Stone and Ocean’s Kingdom. He admitted a rivalry with Simon Mayo, joking that if Mayo wanted to have a laugh with the listeners, Evans would have the audience screaming with mirth.

Other Radio 3 Breakfast presenters are to be employed in other roles, but in a joint statement they argued that all existing contractual obligations must be fulfilled, which could mean that Mr Evans will only present Breakfast on two days per week until early 2020. Chris Evans has yet to respond. One option, mooted at a meeting on Friday, is to replace the Afternoon Concert with a programme presented by members of the current Breakfast team. “This could ensure an almost continuous stream of popular classics throughout the day.”

Further details will be published on the BBC Website in due course.

The Times has a story (with photo) about a drone specially designed to take your dog for a walk - it can pick up poop and deposit it in a bin - must not be used on dogs below a certain size, four peekapoos and a Pomeranian ended up snagged in trees and one owner of a toy poodle claims it has not been heard of since it was last seen 500 feet over Hampstead Heath..........

The BBC will try anything to ketchup with Mayo.
I've just listened to an interview on 'Today' with Liz Truss - the most convincing spoof since Attenborough's talking apes!

Getting Chris Evans to present Radio 3 Breakfast would more or less overnight double even treble its audience - he is the most popular radio presenter in the UK. It would be the most massive statement of faith in the future of classical music broadcasting. However at £2 million per year it ain't going to happen.

Good, we need someone with a bit of street cred (do people still talk about 'street cred or was that five years ago' ?)
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
