Excuse me but do you mean….?

Host: If this is against the house rule, please delete this thread. Or move it to a suitable place.

For a very long time, we have been complaining about and laughing at countless mistakes that appear on Radio3’s website or announced by the presenters. I thought it might be amusing as well as useful evidence if we have a place to post and list what we have noticed (maybe with the corrections?) Just the facts without comments on the presenter personally, since we can't be certain that the mistakes are the presenters'. Here are a couple examples to start with.

This is old news but Farinelli was referred to as a great countertenor (castrato) on one Early Music Late.
After today’s Afternoon on 3 Kate Molleson announced ‘a work by another Spanish (Argentinian) composer, Ginastera’.

Over to you (if this is allowed).

Lazy presenting and production values by the BBC R3. At least somebody who knows something about classical music should be checking these things. It's not rocket science.

Perfectly acceptable as a Thread, dovers - I've moved it to the "Playlist Programmes" section, though, as it seemed more appropriate there than on the "Record Review" section.

(Might be interesting to see which presenter turns out to be the chief "Gaffer"! )

More like a double entendre, methinks.

How come "I've" developed a spelling misteak in Bryn's quotation?!

              Tempted to say...

"Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye"

OK yes, OTT (moi?)... but just a polite plea - can contributors here make a little more effort to correct typos in their posts?
No-one minds the odd one or two, but they have been very frequent recently... it doesn't take that long to correct, surely...?

(lifelong immunity from prosecution for BBMmk2 of course...)

                  .

... on Friday 8 February a presenter introducing the aria 'La pace mia smarrita' (from Rossini's Moses in Egypt) gave as background : "... but Pharaoh's wife, having secretly converted to Christianity... "

I spy Wikipedia which says: "Amaltea, Pharaoh's wife, has secretly converted". Easy mistake to make
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

glad some one noticed this - no apology at end so I assumed she was merely reading off a crib sheet without involvement of brain.

Oh, come on. I'm an atheist and even I know Moses lived way before Mary gave birth to Jesus, let alone before he gave rise to a revised version of Judaism.

I think it a bit rich that the writer of the opening message can’t get the name of the presenter he’s criticising correct. It’s
                          “Kate Molleson” not “Morrison”.
Check jayne lee wilson’s post - opening quotation - for further comment and advice.

Er, yeah, but of course those people are paid to do a job by the most prestigious broadcaster in the country, with our money, jobs that are highly prized.

                            Whereas we are aren’t.
