It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I hadn't realised EC had gotten this bad, though I quite liked the bird sequence which somebody might have thought was very clever. They could have thrown in a bit of Carmina Burana for good measure!

Thought I'd catch up, on catch up, with the ghost of Essential Classics past, Mr. Cowan, and listened to his new CFM show on Saturday night.
15 pieces no complete works
2 trailers
3 breaks for adverts comprising in total 19 individual gems
Annoyingly, to me at least, Rob announced and "described" a piece and then we went into the break and the music started without further announcement after the last advert .....
I doubt if I will return ......

I'm a big fan of the Radio 4 comedy series "Ed Reardon's Week" wherein Radio 3 is often parodied, complete with a cameo appearance by Petroc Trelawny! However, I've recently come to realise these clips really DO reflect what Radio 3 has in some respects become; asinine voice-overs and inane phone-ins & quizzes! Maybe it's because I've now partially retired and have the opportunity to listen more, but I find my "annoyance" measure is becoming higher the more I hear; perhaps I need to "chill out" a little more!
That said, the evening concerts are great, although I generally listen on the i-player, at a different time!

What truly depresses me about daytime R3 is that I am rarely surprised by what I hear of the music.
I listen a lot to an online Finnish classical music radio station much of the time, and I rarely tune in and find I know the music - i.e. many wonderful surprises / discoveries that I have followed up.
R3 has become a kind of R2 'These You Have Loved' presented by or care-home overseers eg IS.
I loved the challenge upthread "why not listen to CFM - the real thing - rather than R3 - its imitation."
And, yes, evening concerts / CE / Jazz / World Music rarely disappoint. But Ess Class............crikey.
