Bach Immersion

Martin Handley reading out lots of pro and anti tweets and emails on Breakfast this morning. Also seemed to ask for emails as to why people don't like Bach and/or wall to wall Bach ......

The forum is just as much for "I like it/I hate it", without the incumbency to rationalise and without needing to consider what others may like/hate. Realising you're only stating your own personal preference adds some perspective …

My own opinion is that Breakfast et seq. are not made worse than usual by devoting them to Bach, though as Alpie half suggested, half a dozen or so complete works would make them immeasurably better (for me ).

So often we suffer both: immersion in one composer's music, but flipping from one chunk to another.

...which makes one wonder whether 'they' know who they're broadcasting to, does it not? It's like being offered a menu that comprises 2 items: 1 enormous helping of porridge with unlimited refills, or an unlimited range of 'nibbles'. On the positive side, I've recently been enjoying some unjustly neglected pieces from my CD and DVD collections. AND I'm finding an increasing number of interesting programmes on Radio 4 and Radio 4 Extra.

Great playing, but although Sarah called him "lutenist Goran Sollscher", he isn't, he's a guitarist - this was played on his 11 string guitar. A very "tight" sound lacking the subtleties of the lute. Excellent lute versions are available, by Jakob Lindberg and Nigel North among others....

And what do we get? Oklahoma. I don't have problem with it being broadcast on R3, and we had a lot of Bach yesterday, but Christmas Day evening concert....FCOL was that really the best they could do?

A kind thought, thank you. However lacking the necessary bits(soft and hard) to listen to internet radio, I'll pull out some CDs or perhaps a bit of vinyl, and take advantage of the neighbours with small child being away.
