Of course the R3 apparatchiks are going to celebrate its 'success'. What else could they do?

I fear that after the ominous 'Mix-tape' at 7 p.m. the pattern is being set. Programmed algorithms rather than listeners' tastes / yearnings / producers' tastes etc from the Digital archives. A R3 without any speech at all?

Individual pieces were fine enough, but it's the intention and thus place of this structure / 'experiment' in any future of R3 that truly frightens me. Drama? Talks? Live concerts / relays?

I shuddered as it went on - and that wasn't just form the fierce oop 'ere cold.

I had been expecting to hear music from rituals other than christianity although I accept that music which other cultures find inspiring spiritually was probably a hope too far. 95% white, anglo-saxon, christian, european, male,(just look at the faces on the playlist) is unimaginative and unnecessary.

Yeah, but...yeah but....yeah but....the closer you looked at the selection of music, the more baffling it got to a 'sacred river'. Erm...........??

What on earth is going on?

(I don't think music is a language... before someone starts on that one )

Blimey, when I make music and performances I don't necessarily think there is something that people listening are "supposed" to be thinking.

I had to go out delivering stuff this afternoon... so had a listen... I loved it and heard things I wouldn't normally listen to.

Actually I enjoyed the sequence and listened for most of the six hours. I liked how the ending segued into CE. A neat touch.

And why "even the atheists". Does being an atheist also mean inability to enjoy/appreciate music that might have been inspired or motivated by a faith system?

If I set a text I'd expect my setting to have something to say about the text I was setting, otherwise I wouldn't bother to set it.

And if I listen to someone else's setting, I want to be able to understand the text they've set.

That had me confused for a couple of minutes thanks to the clock on my desk being slow - I was just thinking it was a strange follow-on from the Mahler!
