    19th cent English dirging...
For which the ideal 'follow-on' would presumably be Gaelic psalm singing.....

      .
Do you mean Hildegard of Bradford? Or perhaps Judith of Bingham?

From the perspective of whoever dreamed this idea up you probably are missing something, but then so are they.

I suggest that a possible approach would be to switch off Radio 3 for the six hours, then look at the playlist and see whether there is anything worth listening to via iplayer. In the meantime, on a Sunday morning, a careful choice of a place of worship should enable you to experience some sacred music live and in its proper context.

I'd bet on a good deal more non-Western, non-Christian music than merely Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan (why only him?)

But only of a Christian sort. I'm expecting we'll be offered a much wider range than that. Rams' horns at the very least.

Sikh and Hindu temples (and possibly other places) also function on Sunday mornings.

                I stand corrected.

And of course the South Place Ethical Society at Conway Hall used to schedule their chamber music concerts at 6.30 on Sunday (do they still?) precisely to lure people away from finding spiritual nourishment at Evensong.

They spend as much time telling us about it in advance than they would jabbering between the music in normal circumstances.

But of course this way they can pretend it's clever and innovative.

'Super flumina Babylonis' as a possible starter to the day?

                          Good suggestions!
Sadly, the minster is only doing one (long) service Sunday morning, but, as you say, there are other places.
Singing in a concert myself Saturday night, with social afterwards, so it might be a morning recovering in bed anyway!

                          Sung Eucharist and Confirmation
                          Missa Rigensis Praulinš
                          Ave verum corpus Byrd
Sermon by the Archbishop of York

PS: The Praulinš is an interesting setting, well worth a listen.
We sang it (complete) at our last concert.
The minster choir will undoubtedly not sing the Credo, and may well not sing all other 'movements' either; we are usually served either the Kyrie or the Gloria.

The trailer just now suggests Allegri Misery as well.
