Fair enough, but I suspect you have to spend a great deal of time rehearing familiar music before stumbling across an unknown gem. Now when Radio Times listed works to be played, one could see the "new-to-you/me" works at a glance and tune in at the approximate time listed, if you were not able/willing to listen to the entire programme. This applies to many other R3 programmes, including the entire morning schedule.

Suffering the last 10 minutes or so of this before tonight's RLPO concert relay: a ghastly jarring sequence of key and style changes with no break at all between pieces.
I'll wait till 19:30 next time.

There are several mediums that are absolutely perfect for you
streaming , CD or even downloads
you don't seem to want the things that Radio does so why not go elsewhere ?

I'm sick to death of buying apples in the shops that don't taste like oranges

Though this Radio station has been wonderful this year

Now we have somebody talking between and OVER tracks.

          Just what is the point?

At least not quite to the low level of one station in the USA. Actually, to be fair, it was normally quite good, and played classical music in a reasonably sensible way, but on one occasion it played one of MacDowell's piano concertos. Part way through the music faded out, and other items came on - I can't remember if there was any music - but probably a news item or two, and perhaps a couple of "messages". Some while later the announcer said "and let's now see how MacDowell is getting on .." (or similar) and faded up to a rather later point in the work than the earlier fade out.

It was self-evidently a one-off. If they do it again, I might be a bit concerned. As it is, I got over it pretty quickly.

Perforce happen to be listening to it. Like Winterreise...went to see who it was. Can I find it ? Not at all. One size fits all...which is why us classical listeners get short shrift.

I'd be delighted if anyone could say...Silly boy, here it is.

Not the answer to your question but here is the thread of this programme. Maybe Host can merge it?
Breakfast, Essential Classics, Inside Music, Private Passions, Sunday Morning &c.

... according to the BBC site :

                      Gute Nacht (Winterreise)

Performer: Helmut Deutsch. Singer: Jonas Kaufmann.

Just go to 'Radio 3 Schedules', click on the relevant date and scroll down to the programme in question.
(There's already an 'In Tune Mixtape' thread, by the way).

Apart from the first two items, they still haven't put the details of last night's mixtape up (11 Nov).

Apparently other featured composers included Saint-Saens, Beethoven and Cyril Scott.

On balance, I think I'd rather chop onions to the R3 Mixtape, supper prep time being incompatible with deep thought.

According to the EPG on my TV, tonight's Mixtape includes 'Haydn's ticklingly playful Trio in C, a whirling tarantella by Madeleine Dring and a high-kicking version of Brahms's First Hungarian Dance'. I can't wait!
