    Another cinema closes?

Perhaps. Perhaps not. From Saturday 3 June a new 6-part series begins at 3pm (the usual time for Sound of Cinema). Called Sound of Dance it will fill the gap until the Proms begin on Friday 14th.

The full day's schedule isn't given, but the series title and time suggest it will replace the film music programme.

"… a new series exploring the relationship between music and movement in a variety of dance genres, beginning with a look at the work of choreographer Sir Frederick Ashton, founder choreographer of the Royal Ballet and a hugely influential figure in the early 20th century.:

The presenter will be our resident dance expert from Strictly Come Dancing. Something to be listened to carefully to see if the characteristic archness will be replaced by a more serious, professional manner.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I look forward to interestingly divergent opinions on which year The Madison originated.

This picks up on my point earlier in the year about younger generations enjoying music more from the outlook of engagement in activities. However, that is very likely to be a coincidence. It is also the case that nothing is new in this world - Saturday Night Fever, Achy Breaky Heart etc - so hopefully they will throw in some skateboarding and skydiving.
