    Essential Classics. Vivian Parry? Waffle.

10.30 Essential classics with guest Vivian Parry. Who? They seem to have given up inviting celebs and just inviting any random person into the studio to waffle on about anything. She waffles on about how she dislikes string quartets (!), and loves her garden. I come to R3 to escape the gardening programmes on R4, and (hopefully) to catch a string quartet, or at least some kind of "essential classic". How about having musical interludes on gardening programmes or Top Gear? BBC producers wouldn't dare... so why do they mess around with music programmes?

I dunno - given that this slot exists (and, like you, I'd rather it didn't) I thought she rated as an interesting guest, far from random. They had Antony Beevor recently.... But the format (short, contrived) and the skill or otherwise of the interviewer (SW much improved and far better than RC, who is dire at this) mean that all too often it's a wasted opportunity. If the questions are rubbish.... We already have Private Passions.... Normally I turn off if I'm even listening at all at 10.00.
