First time in a long while that I've stuck with the programme and not gone to my own CD collection instead.
He should perhaps have mentioned that the RVW Concerto accademico performance just played is part of the Previn RVW symphony set, about to be rereleased (available 15 April, says the Presto site).

Does anyone know what the number at the end of each listing in the playlist is? My guess is track number, but they don't give the CD number, so what's the point of it?

It seems to be one of the track numbers. The Bach BWV 1060R is tracks 8-10. You apparently have to identify the disc by the title.

But tracks 10--12 according to this link (with title Oboe Concerto, and soloist as composer!).
Surely the playlist could (should?) give the CD number as well/instead?

It rather shows the copywriter’s (lack of) intelligence. I wish Radio3 could have its own website-team that would probably have chosen something like ‘informed’

Hello there,

I'm currently listening to the Sunday 3rd of April broadcast on the auld I-player and what a joy it is. Listening to the Takemitsu at the moment - haven't heard it in yonks. Loved also the Berlioz and the Marin Marais which was totally new to me. To mix my elements as it were - the water theme (like the show) is a breath of fresh air

Are there many regular programmes where the music is beyond reproach but the presenter invariably awful? On the whole, poor presenter, poor programme. There have been cases where decent presenting mitigates the programmes' naff content.

Radio 3 is merely copying (now there's a change) the populist style of popular radio. For Radio 2, when Wogan retired the only issue of importance was: which presenter would replace him? Same when Moyles left Radio 1. Broadcasting Proms on television - who on earth can we get to present classical music?

John Peel, Andy Kershaw, Mary Anne Hobbs, Jarvis Cocker, Steve Lamacq &c. - all considered essential to give their take on their selection of music. Classical music must be unique in not needing a special 'take' - though in the sense that Rob has his noted favourites among the vintage performances of the classics, he too comes into the same category: presenter puts his/her stamp on the programme and is therefore 'important'. What BBC Radio doesn't seem to get its head round is that presenters can be 'important' because they ruin a programme. And if that's the case, seeing a large picture of the presenter simply rubs salt in the wounds.

Presenters? I once saw Alan Titchmarsh presenting a televised prom, I could hardly believe my eyes when he popped up. I thought he was a gardener.
