Music Matters - Northern Lights: Sibelius 150

I listened to this. It was interesting to hear contributions from Vesa Siren, Viejo Murtomaki, Daniel Grimley, Maria Kalaniemi and Anna-Maria von Bonsdorff.

Many of the ideas flagged up by the programme, whilst not being new, were worth hearing nevertheless.

But did we really have to hear Tom Service trampling though muddy puddle - splash-splash-spolsh - gasping for breath as though exercise was new to him. It all distracted from what was essentially a really thought-provoking programme.

I listened to this again, and despite the gimmicky presentation (and the presenter's French pronunciation of the composer's forename) it was better for being heard again.
If we must have conversation, today's Composer of the Week showed how it should be done.

Donald Macleod on Sibelius's most famous celebration of the Finnish people, Finlandia.

...about 10m55sec in for a clear unfussy explanation of Finland's non-statehood and later of the cultural landscape.
