It seems daft to employ such a specialist host and then ask her to dampen down her enthusiasm and knowledge."

If I understood him correctly, people will turn to Unwind after the Today programme ('to escape the news'), move on from Unwind to Radio 3 (why?) , switch back to Unwind if something on Radio 3 doesn't appeal to them, nod off while listening to Unwind, then return to Radio 4 for the Today programme the following morning.

Sorry I was referring to the Chailly recording - the rest of the performance is very good .

a propos of nothing in partIcular I was listening blind to the Elgar Introduction and Allegro on In Tune tonight and thought this is good - some of that string playing is up there with the Barbirolli.

I cannot disagree with regard to the quality of the playing. Its the guiding hand I struggle with .

I was in Suffolk in the summer and with only a radio. On Breakfast it was announced the Tallis Fantasia with the S of L - oh good I thought but of course it was Wilson not Barbirolli , superbly played and moved me not a jot.

Andrew's extensive database might be able to help. (But I'm not sure how to specifically find Barbirolli).

I don't really listen to Breakfast or EC, but I couldn't find many recent ones, although a decade ago they may have appeared more often...

From my limited listening to 'Breakfast' I would say that it's pretty rare to hear a 'classic' recording unless they're marking an anniversary or birthday of a conductor or other artist.
