Now currently on was recorded live with no editing. Hardly any one days attempt it live these days . Those right hand chromatic minor thirds were dashed off like a basic Czerny exercise.

Happily the more-than-feasible Mark Forrest has reopened afternoon programming for me this week. I like his presentation style very much, unaffected and unpatronising with a few deftly-delivered facts. I learnt two things (about Prokofiev’s R&J, and about Václav Luks’s Collegium 1704) I didn’t know, and very much enjoyed the performances.

Today's "live" phraseology... Wot, no "bigly" or "special" relationship?

Another recording made specially by our friends in radio stations across Europe. Thanks to our relationship with the European Broadcasting Union, we're able to bring these recordings exclusively to you. And that was from a concert that took place in Switzerland's impressive Beaulieu Theatre in Laussane...

I'd still prefer a "Lunchtime Concert" - we could have had both Brandenburgs together with both Scarlatti (Scarlotto?) pieces. Rather than everything being randomly put through the mincer.

Mentioning 'relationship' implies some sort of special status, but it's a membership organisation to which the BBC belongs - along with the likes of BR, yle, ITV, Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation...
To me, the use of 'exclusively' suggests that the BBC is able to restrict broadcast of some recordings for its sole use; I would be interested to know if that is true.

Unfortunately the change of presenter, however welcome, doesn't address other longstanding issues. The online information is always incomplete in terms of what will be played, and for the most part now there is no indication of timings. So, if Sounds is not an option(as is my situation) then if I want to hear a particular item it's either making a guess, or sitting through the whole thing in order to catch the bit I want. Making a guess depends on several variables and is often impossible frankly unless I want to spend a great deal of time researching lengths of works and then doing the calculations, adding in wiggle room for undeclared items in bagging area. I would have liked to listen to the Handel Dixit Dominus on Tuesday, but how to know when it was going to be on? I was neither inclined nor in a position to listen to sufficient of the preceding pieces to stand a chance of getting what I wanted. Keeping the PC on just to track what had been played wasn't an option and carries it's own problems as the listings are not always timely or correct, as illustrated today. I heard a chunk of today's broadcast and nos 2 and 3 of the MacMillan Tenebrae Responsaries don't appear in the Music Played list as they were placed in the broadcast itself, nor as they appear in the schedule that precedes the playlist.

You're right. I think the Bach was on RTS 15/5/2024 & RTE 26/2/2025 (?), so exclusive as in "Not on Classic FM"?

As you surmise it’s exclusive to the BBC in the UK region only. Each (usually public service )broadcaster in the EBU will I suspect have exclusivity over a partner’s recording in their own country for a period of time - possibly only one first outing , a thirty day stream window and a repeat.

“Exclusive” is the most abused word in journalism….
