Afraid I only caught short moments of it (morning household interruptions). The Chorus sounded good, well in particular a very uniform and acceptable sound - so I was concerned to get the details of the performers as I'd like to hear that again. It was Handley and the RLPO/Chorus.

        Hiya AG,

Bring back the dancing actress Katie Derham that's what I say! And before anyone says she's not an actress you just had to see her TV antics and expressions on Strictly Come Dancing 2015 to see that if she's not she should be.

You won't be surprised to hear that I have successfully avoided all such plugs - what's the programme about?
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
          Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

I don't think many people would have objected if she'd taken the time to explain what the original version was. But it's been one of the logical results of having 22-25 separate pieces in every programme that presenters who aren't particularly well-informed don't have time to prepare their scripts properly every morning. The alternative would be for 'announcers' to be provided with scripts written for them.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I thought she was back in her usual slot? Don't think she'd cope too well on Breakfast - you need a Skellers or a Squire ....

I've just listened to that section, and to be fair, she did more or less explain the "16 soloists" reference in the intro. So I'd only object to the silly tweet being read out from someone saying the piece "stopped me in my tracks". Really? I noticed a tweet a couple of days ago was from a Mrs Trellis of N. Wales …

But in line with the long established tradition of such correspondence, did it start "Dear French Frank"?(!)...

But bring her back where and to do what, pray? Being utterly clueless when it comes to any aspect of dance, I am not about to question her abilities in that field, but it occurs to me nevertheless that dance prowess is unlikely to cut much ice on Radio 3, for rather obvious reasons...

To do what, you ask? To read a script of course. Neither should having great looks and famous parents matter for radio presenters. But it seems to help some! Sky Sports News is a great example: All the women (bar one seen occasionally) are young, with great figures and look like models and the men are invariably older and have more lived in looks.

This morning we had another example of the jaunty cheapness of this beloved programme.

A request had been received from someone describing his reaction to the first time he had heard Mahler's 1st Symphony. He said: "It was like listening to the birth of music itself." So far, so good; an appropriate description, one might think, of the symphony's opening.

But - oh no! CB-H gave us the ever-so-jolly CFMish scherzo.

[paraphrasing]"it's a great day for Julian Bliss... ... I expect he's really excited" [about being on In Tune today]

                                - love it!
