A remarkable example of being both rude and patronising at the same time.

I didn't mean to make any more than a throwaway remark acknowledging the kernel's comment, but this as this is proving one of the most interesting things I've said for some time
I do think professional broadcasters should speak clearly - and not gabble - since since there must be many like me who use ear trumpets and don't always catch what people are saying. There isn't much point in shouting, 'Eh? What did you say?' at the wireless.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Nope - tried again.... can't stand Ms Burton-Hill's voice in the morning. Every aspect of her 'delivery' makes me recoil.
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
        Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Her voice and delivery become ever more child-like.

Speaking for myself, my powers of recoil remain unchanged!

I don't think she's got worse. It's just that she certainly ain't improved!

"Assistants"? Waitrose doesn't have assistants; they're all "partners" these days.

When were they not partners? I though that had been part of the John Lewis Partnership from the start.

                    Hiya Bryn,

Don't forget the 'team huddle' in the morning.

Only since JLP took it over - in 1937. Waitrose Ltd was founded by messrs Waite and Rose in 1908. So I undestand.

Sure - so Waitrose staff have been "partners" only since 1937 - nearly 80 years and for around three quarters of its existence...
