And yes - I have come down to Breakfast again! (Last time for a while - holidays from tonight!)
I thought you'd be on the front line to save Legal Aid, which I presume the majority of your clients need ...... Did you hear the murder of Sloop John B ??

I was going to ask for several other fences to be taken into consideration (as a barrister friend of mine jested on one occasion, when acting for a nefarious showjumper...).

        I'll get his gown.

Oh was it a shanty? No.... I missed that one.

The uncharitable thought struck me, as to who is sleeping with whom to get this lot on national radio...

No - I take it back; it's good, energetic, ... local singing!

He dances too, but won't admit it..........

Only just heard this on iPlayer - as I am not a Breakfast regular - doesn't say much for the Beeb's publicity machine down here!

I guess singing outdoor, recorded live does not produce the best sound. Better in the pub - there are a number of informal groups down here - generally the bigger the group the less harmony and tendency to oversing. 5 or 6 doing it right sound better than a dozen shouting! There are also some newer songs which really do Cornwall justice.

Aren't the Cornish people supposed to be rather good at singing?

Indeed so, alas Petroc did not choose the best to show case it to the World eg there are nicer voices than Brenda Wootton. Looking at the playlist it seems he did not play anything by any of the excellent Male Voice choirs in the County.

I once went to an interview for a music teaching job in a Cornish town. When I said I was interested in expanding the vocal work ("expanding" really meaning starting from scratch) I was told that were was something in the Cornish genes that meant their singing potential was not that great and that I might be disappointed. All it did was to arouse my anger, and unfortunately I think it showed, and the job was offered to someone else (who happened to be a chum of the advisor).

Cheers for the 'shout' about 4.0 sound at the proms just now Petroc. All very interesting. But tbh I'd rather the Beeb went back to streaming its replay content in a format my expensive Musical Fidelity player can understand, so it isn't obsolete. Especially as BBC Radio is no longer "supported" by Virgin Media. No longer support this

I can get Radio 3 in tolerably decent sound on VM channel 903. Not yet been able to ascertain how many kbps we're talking - and almost certainly not the 320kbps the station promises.
