I am listening to Lunchtime Concert now, presented by Clemency Burton-Hill who sounds
Knowledgeable (being a violinist herself) and intelligent. Not quite the level of Jonathan Swain but perfectly acceptable as a professional broadcaster (to me).

If she is so dire on Breakfast, it must be the requirement of the programme.

I’m not contradicting your post. It’s just happened to come after your post.

Whereas now 'Skellers' is confined to reading the news headlines.... oh the humility!

I love it when Clemmy says "..or on yer mobile" cos I can hear you all collectively wincing!

Except when she said something 'differs to' something else, which made me wince.

Ah, the "universal" preposition creeping in again.

Part of the job description, I'd have thought.

You can almost hear the question being posed during the job interview - "Are you prepared to be totally inane, to forget all you know about music and to treat your listeners like not particularly bright infants? If so, welcome on board." Another victim of Radio 3's morning sickness.

No. When Clemmy's presenting, most of us aren't listening.

The 'yer mobile' thing could gain 'meme' status I reckon - whatever that is.......I think she knows she's doing it....Anyway, world peace anyone?

                          Yep...

That fake 'little girl' lithp still does it for you, does it, Radio64?

                          Amazing.
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                          Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

The problem is that when presenters are chosen for a specific reason, especially to exude a particular type of appeal for a particular audience (and that may be the job they have to do, rather than their natural inclination), that overlooks the inconvenient fact that a - possibly/probably - larger audience will be less than immune to that appeal. They will dislike it intensely.

It seems to run counter to BBC thinking that presentation should not be embodied in the person but perhaps in the relevant qualities/qualifications. In some cases the station is just stuck because it can't find ideal candidates.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

                              Eine Alpensinfonie,
I'm certainly not listening to those pitiful inane tweets that she reads out which is nothing short of airwave abuse.

Short "bleeding chunk" from the end of Petrushka this morning irritated me a little: "what was the bleeding point" I wondered?
