FF: Do we know WHY Breakfast has to come out of Salford on Saturday and Sunday?

I assumed it was from Salford all week? anyway part of the BBC plan to move jobs out of London. Sport & Radio 5 Live are based in Salford (I think the children's services are too). Though moving the jobs but employing people who live in London seems a bit odd.

I may be wrong FF but I am pretty sure Breakfast is in London Monday to Friday. Does not Rob Cowan or Sarah Walker "pop in" to the Breakfast studio quarter of an hour before they are due on air to tell us of their wondrous offerings?

I think you're right - I've been looking for a reference to a weekday Salford, but I only found a weekend! So the answer to your question is: "I don't know."

I always assumed Radio 3 was from London also.

I think we are all accustomed to having things measured in comparison to "football pitches" or "double decker buses" (why, I have no idea as it rarely helps clarify the quantity involved) but this morning the above young lady, stumping around a cheese fair, gave us the following: "In the UK we eat xxx million tons of cheese each year - enough to build 40 Eiffel Towers".
I am still reeling from this statement and wondering just how this bizzarre figure was reached. Are we just talking height here and does it include the span of the legs. And what of the spaces between the levels? I think my brain is fit to bust!

I assume that it means 40x the weight of the Eiffel Tower's structure, as the other alternative would be very difficult to calculate.

today's Best of British George Lloyd because Trelawn had "received a lot of grief" for not having included him thus far - but in the interests of balance, by the end of the piece [Symphony 6/iii], someone had tweeted that Lloyd (and Bantock) were quite justifiably neglected. Plus emails from people complaining about Proms trailers.

Controversial tweets could get a lot of responses? Where can one read these tweets that get sent in? I've tried searching the BBCRadio 3 and PetrocTrelawny Twitter pages but can't find anything ...

This reinforces my opinion that other than in forums like this - but not on Radio 3 - comments (or programmes?) on someone's else's personal likes/dislikes/choices are completely pointless. Even Private Passions is hardly worth a year-round weekly broadcast. If it was on for a (regular) 6-week series now and again, they might be able to find people who can produce an imaginative playlist with more objective commentary.

As for the Proms trails, it did give an opportunity for someone else to email in to say 'If you're tired of the Proms, you're tired of life' - and another mention about the broadcasts from Petroc; and someone else to email in with 'The Proms is not the only festival on at the moment [details follow].' Sorry, Petroc, having done my 'homework' I wasn't tempted to listen to any more (I prefer silence).

By the way, the (approx.) timings seem to have vanished from the playlists, completely - from the older lists as well???

Actually I like some Cole Porter songs, just not taking up space on R3.
