Well, for me, as I have continually complained and as I have a strong aversion to discussions about babies. I will be changing the radio settings on my clock radio and in my car on Sunday night. Or listening to CD's.

I am suprised to see a water bottle on the control panel, when I worked in TV, drinks perched on such expensive things were strictly forbidden!

In the 30 minutes I stuck it out until the overplayed Bizet's Carillon arrived she mentioned her maternity leave TWICE.

After the usual session of the Kiss FM Breakfast Show this morning (Rickie, Melvin & Charlie) I become even more aware of the similarities:

The Breakfast Show is an extension of social media for those wanting to socialise with the world via Twitter, text, Instagram &c.

The music is only secondarily important - short, regularly repeated pieces are ideal.

BBC trails replace the commercial ads (news headlines should always begin with 'Cheers, guys' from the newsreader).


I await Radio 3's launch of their own version of 'Flirtify' (a Kiss FM regular ad): they could call it 'Flirtyfull' - to be quite distinctively different.

It's a disease which is spreading even to those programmes which were previously immune. Can anyone explain why Andrew McGregor felt the need to refer to a tweet from someone who had tweeted that they were going to rush out and buy the Vanska Sibelius set? It was irrelevant; imbecilic; and added absolutely nothing to the debate. Given that fewer than 1% of CD Review's listeners are following McGregor on twitter, this is an example of giving over exposure to a tiny minority of listeners, while completely infuriating 99% of the rest of us. Go figure.

The talk of maternity leave culminated in a reference to the (continually hyped) New Generation Artists as 'my other babies.'
My unscientific impression is that she talks FAR more than PT, IS or MH. Or it may be that when she does talk it is FAR more annoying.
And she described an Albinoni concerto (having stumbled over the composer's name) as a 'Concerto a Five,' which is risible.
I shall be abandoning the programme for the next couple of weeks pending PT's return from the Far East.

It does seem that the aim is to respond to people who enjoy sharing their slightest thoughts with their 'community'. That's okay here on the forum - people are free to participate or not. But it's quite obvious that Radio 3's Facebook and Twitter accounts (and the blog) are used by a minuscule section of the audience: again, their choice. But to fill the airtime with such trivialities so that listeners have to tolerate it unwillingly or not listen is mindblowingly crass.

They do say Radio 4 is the home of intelligent radio. It becomes clearer and clearer it isn't Radio 3.

Does anyone else remember the occasion some twenty plus years ago when the R3 announcer spilt tea into the mixing console of the studio and everything went dead and then, after a period of silence, said announcer, sounding rather breathless, informed listeners that a change of studio had been required?

Presumably that means that Skelly is the permanent other presenter, while Trelawny is the maternity leave cover?
