Well the duet from The Pearl Fishers and the L'Arlesienne Suite make very regular appearances on Breakfast and EC so one has to assume that the knowledge of the presenter is seriously limited in this case.

the Best of British list is getting to an awkward stage, with well over 200 days left and all the most "popular" works having already been requested, this morning we were asked for "the more obscure the better"

Really?! I'm sure I heard someone say 'The more obvious the better' on one programme.

Obscure works that are among the best of British music - we'll need some pretty knowledgeable listeners getting in touch
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I had a look at the list, and , to be fair, its a pretty decent mix.

Well, yes. I don't know where to start with the "one-hit wonder" comment. If Bizet is to be coupled with Suppé, then is the whole of (presumably) Light Cavalry to be regarded as the "one hit" or just the Overture? And, if just the Overture, then doesn't Carmen qualify as being a "six-hit wonder" (even if only courtesy of Bennett & Hammerstein)? Then there are the pieces you mention; and the other works that receive regular concert and broadcast performances; and the other Suppé overtures; and the fact that Carmen wasn't a "hit" until many years after Bizet's death ...

What, exactly, is this type of broadcasting for? It serves only Mr Murdoch and those others who wish to see an end to the Licence Fee.

If it's to go on for a year in all, we're not half way through yet - as mercia pointed out (btw, mercs - I wasn't doubting what you heard, just they seemed to be saying the opposite a few days ago).

Well they had better stick " adam Zero" on the list then.
I feel sure my email on to them on the subject will be persuasive enough.....

Yesterday's Breakfast playlist looked bad, but I'm listening. Presenter introduced Elizabethan Serenade: 'I expect some of you will be thinking: I know that piece.' And then someone tweeted: 'Radio 3 playing a spot of Ronald Binge. Perfect for a Sunday morning.'

I feel there's no further hope for the human race if no one protests. (They have just played the Andante cantuh-BEELay from K330...). We have had the Johann Strauss II, as per usual, and have three spirituals, Cole Porter and two pieces by Michael Nyman to come ...

I shoulda known better with a list like that, Dah, dah, dah, dah ....

Yesterday's playlist was indeed bad, I though when I first saw it that someone had a pasted a playlist from R2 a few years book in error. I had to listen in to check this wasn't the case knowing what an utter embarrassment the R3 website is. I suppose we're getting all the Nyman currently as he's 70 this year.

What? No Ronald Binge? Perhaps anyone able to suggest anything 'more obscure' isn't listening? Have they already had 'The Lark Ascending' ?

Perhaps the members here could send in suggestions? I've just followed the Spotify playlist (despite the usual problem with artist/composer tags), so if you'd like to educate me, now's your chance. The very best of British luck to you.
