I agree with you Rumpole there is a faint, or maybe not so faint, slice of irony. As mercs says all the standard items remain proving, to me at least, that the construction and playlist comes from "on high".......

      "Good morning Brian".

      Priceless.

      Not a boarder I assume.

        You mean the concertina chap?

Missed the start (he was called John at the end) but wondered if my radio was tuned to Radio 4extra and there was an episode of Monty Python on. The voice sounded like Graham Chapman in 'chartered accountant' mode...

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
        Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Yes: my first thought was E L Wisty.

Just listened to iPlayer (approx 2'07" in) and heard what you mean!

Would have been funnier still had Ms Burton-Hill been the 'presenter' so addressed

(For those that didn't / can't / won't - Ian S introduced the caller John who responded with 'Good morning Brian'... )

It was Ian's courteous and quick-thinking panache in dealing with it that impressed me most. Hope he becomes a regular (though at the same time, I wouldn't wish that 6am kick-off on my worst enemy). I would actively seek out Breakfast in his company. If you know what I mean

EL Wisty reincarnated as a Radio 3 listener. What a thought to conjure with.

Is it just coincidence ? PT's back this week, and I switch on and have to switch off instantly as there is some ghastly trite Classic-FM-standby bit of Verdi on. Last week, Ian Skelly's programme was on whenever possible with no such moments. Do the producers change too? Whatever, the gang on today (inc. PT) needs moving to "other duties"

I think there is generally a slice of irony in IS's presentation, whenever he's on. John Shea is good for subtle humour too.
