Breakfast is intended to be an occasional programme, listen as you munch or shave or drive, and I can't really get at all worked up about the state of its musicological spine.
Quite obviously, The New Listener is incapable of increasing their attention span to listen to complete works. Give him/her the theme from that advert or film and they're happy, but a whole symphony pur-lease - it's soooo boring!!!

Thing is, if you listen to your local student radio station, you discover that basic radio presentation isn't the great art that presenters and others might want us to think it is.
So, like other " Not so hard but lucrative and desirable jobs" the incumbents positions have to be justified. In this case its by mock complexity and pseudo knowledge, as well as celebrity culture, in order to convince us that a regular "non celebrity" presenter would be unable to deliver the ratings.
Good radio presentation, EG writing and presenting a decent " Discovering Music" is a REAL skill....and hence sidelined as it might show up the celebrity DJ's and their work?I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.
