Are you listening to Radio 3 for the honeyed tones of the doe-eyed presenter, rather than the music? That's a bit like the popular music radio audiences. On the subject of which, it occurred to me that Radio 3 might do worse than 'ape' Kiss FM by changing the programme title and branding it 'Non-stop Old Skool'.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

A bit of both mate, a bit of both.

Mind you reading some of the comments here perhaps many would prefer not to have any kind of (human) presenter at all. After all with digital devices you can always "see" what particular piece of music is being broadcast - no need for any irritating human voice. Big savings by the BBC too.

What I want is to be told something about the music being played. Something about its history, conception, the composer, or the performers. Something intelligent, sensible and not too trivial.

There are plenty of other radio stations that discuss the news, the papers, the charts, what is eaten for breakfast, etc etc. No need for this on Radio 3.

I suppose, really, the ideal setup for me would be a device with a classical music collection as large as that of the BBC which would play the pieces (whole) in a sensible order and display information on them should I wish to view it. An added bonus would be the addition of a "never play this one again" button.

Comment on the R3 Facebook page this morning:

'Ian Skelly's breakfast show insight, "Come back Les Dawson, Italy needs you".

Never a truer word ... . Thank you, My Skelly for illuminating and lightening my morning.' (A listener in Italy)

If correctly reported, THAT is R3, in my opinion. Dull? Are you raving, Radio64?

These theatrical types! (...according to FB we also have 'friends' in common...)

Maybe I gave Skelly short shrift due to my Clemmy-disappointment. Promise to try harder tomorrow.

Oops, apologies to Petroc (& Clemency) - I was reading this as suggesting a rather more intimate involvement with the baby than covering Clemency's shifts -

"Petroc has a very busy December and January which has given us the opportunity to schedule our rota so that I'm getting quite a few weeks in the studio early on. Then he'll be holding the reins after the baby's born until we settle in to our usual weekly alternating breakfast presenting rhythm once more."

Now is gossip put on trial,
                        Now the rumours either fail
Or are shouted in the wind
                        Sweeping furious through the land.
                        Now the liars shiver, for
Now if they've cheated we shall know:
We shall strike and strike to kill
At the slander or the sin.
                        Now the whisperers stand out
                        Now confronted by the fact.
Bring the branding iron and knife:
What’s done now is done for life.

Looking at the new picture of RC on the website, it looks rather robotic, come to think of it CBH and KDs do too. I beginning to wonder if the Dear Leader has indeed replaced the presenters with androids in the manner of the Stepford Wives to make sure they giggle, tweet and gush at his every command. Has the CBH one been malfunctioning? and is the pregnancy a cover up whilst a replacement is manufactured?

Oh come on SC, now you're letting your imagination run wild. We all know they're placed here by aliens whose aim is to turn us all into senseless cabbages so they can harvest us for food.
