Beatrice and Eggs Benedict is a nice combination first thing

Followed by the Alpen-Sinfonie of course...
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
      Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Judging by what I heard this morning before turning to Radio 4, the day cannot be far off when the entire playlist is provided by the listeners. If the "Breakfast Show" has benefited from, or driven, the reported increase in Radio 3 listenership, then the proverbial writing is indeed on the proverbial wall.

But do see my and Russ's comments on the latest figures. The figures are not "up" in the general sense that they are steadily climbing (they have been higher than this). They are merely higher this quarter than they have been in certain other quarters.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Yes, I see what you mean: more a case of Gilbert's "modified rapture"

It may be my imagination but whereas before it was music interspersed with comments from the presenter it is now commentary, reading of emails and texts, news, adverts, interspersed with a few very familiar gobbets of music.

I quite agree: the musical interruptions are intolerable!

BoD: maybe your Schoenberg quotation doesn't quite fit with your posting
I keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!

Remember the old Tom Crowe joke (I remember the joke - not Tom Crowe saying it!):

"I do hope the Mendelssohn didn't spoil your enjoyment of the pips..."

"The news today: they're counting puffins in Northumberland. I don't suppose anyone can think of appropriate music?!"

Oh, dear. They really do want to win that Sony Gold Award for breakfast shows, don't they?

Workers at Radio 3 unite: you have nothing to lose but ... your jobs (oops! - say no more...)
