    Not patronising at all.
Perhaps you missed the earlier SM-P puff for this section "and coming up at 8.30 on Your Call a taxi driver who likes classical music".

I don't know about you but that sounds failry patronising - as if a taxi driver of all people should even have a penchant for classical music.

What ON EARTH is Radio 3 doing talking to TAXI DRIVERS? How much further can standards fall?

        You forgot........

Norfolk, you forgot to add Featherstonehaugh, I once met one of those and messed up the name in speaking to her. Oh the shame of it.

Makes sense. They've lost their way, and might get a few tips?

Following a rather acrimonious dispute relating to the mysterious disappearance of some family heirlooms, we adopted the variant spelling on the advice of our solicitors. The 'other lot', as we affectionately call them, are sort of downmarket Downton Abbey, while we're more mid- to upmarket Eaton Place.

You can see this clearly if you watch the long speech by the guy with glasses (sorry can't remember his name) sitting in the car talking to the Mastroianni character near the end of the movie. (Don't know if this applies to other F movies.)

Also, I thought that when I watched Heimat, I heard it in German. Was there a second broadcast with the original German soundtrack?
Just to avoid confusion, kernel, the German drama that I was referring to earlier was a similar family saga to Heimat, but it was much earlier, back in the late 70s some time. I'm sorry, but I can't remember the title.

Lots of Italian films seemed to employ non Italian actors, perhaps the most famous performer in one of the greatest films was Burt Lancaster in Visconti's The Leopard, but he was given a very convincing dubbed voice. Sadly, this film suffered severe cuts in the hands of the distributors, but a fully restored version is now available, and it's superb.

I do not ever remember watching Heimat auf Englisch. It was wunderbar in German. In fact Series 1 and 2 are my favourite TV programmes of all time. It went a bit down hill (ging abwärts) after that.

Well, it had got to be more elaborate, as it was concentrated to one decade, compared to nearly half a century or so for the first two series each.

                                Comes very close, indeed.
I recall vividly how shocked I was following that assassination attempt/cliff hanger at the end of Season 1 e.g., or the story of CJ's dad's illness.
