One bright spot for me is that Rob Cowan has Beecham's French Music as the essentialCD of the week,
    next week..

I hope there is something I don't already have but Tommy is always worth hearing again.

Tommy? No I don't like it. It's a rock opera.

It would also spoil the feeling I have in my kitchen now at Breakfast. You know the one. I'm in a B and B somewhere with something soothing in the background. It's nowhere in particular.

Incidentally, shame about Fluff. Still, VIP Broadcasting has got Mike Read, David Hamilton and Emperor Rosko. Coming soon - "Classical Music This Week - 1 Hour". It quote - "provides all you need to make informed choices when buying or downloading music".

Ha Ha Lat. But my 'Tommy' was a rock of opera for many years and I still love his recordings which usually get to the heart of the music.

Thanks both, you've made my day. I just wish my poor old body would respond as my mind still very occasionally does.

It comes from working with clever men, when I had to think of the quick riposte. Women are always thought to be slightly two steps behind in the music world, unless they are beautiful young violinists.
My cuppa, PG Tips of course.

Just imagine how witty you would be "on" Yorkshire Tea!

salymap, have you noticed there's a programme on BBC2 tonight about the Festival of Britain? (8:15pm)
                  with "previously unseen colour footage"

No,I hadn't seen this in RT, thanks Mercia. It does sound a little like the programme they put on some months ago but we will see.

Thanks, it was a new film. To avoid being even more off-topic I've posted on Visual Arts, for what it's worth.

I'd like to know how Radio 4 Extra gets away with no time signal, no news bulletin, no weather report, no tweeting, texting or emails, just a fair number of trailers

probably prerecorded days if not weeks in advance

It's 12.38 and not only has the Breakfast playlist not been updated, it hasn't got any details at all. Just the usual note that:

'NB This playlist is subject to change during transmission. The final playlist will be put up by noon on the day of broadcast.'

I can't see of what interest it is to listeners that the playlist is 'subject to change during transmission' if they haven't been given the minutest clue as to what will be played in the first place.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I've already posted this on the TTN thread.
I've overcome the horror that is Breakfast by recording TTN on my Freesat PVR, and then, during the rest of the day, replay it, broadcasting it around the house using a little (good quality) MP3 FM transmitter - sooh! if you have a Freesat or Freview PVR, off you go (and, what's more, the technical quality is much better than DAB (Diabolical Audio Broadcasting))

Elisabeth Mahoney in the Guardian shares the views of this board on "Your Call", but is otherwise broadly sympathetic to the changes to Breakfast.
