I'm always up for a challenge, so I had a go. Have to say I could hear most words, though every now and again she galloped away and I missed a bit. But what I did hear wasn't very interesting (only managed up to the beginning of the Beethoven which was not, as I was expecting, the second piece but the fifth as there were three pieces in Croissant Corner). But most of the speech seemed to be about why something was being played and who it was being played for.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I too can hear every word she says. I just wish I couldn’t.

I listened to only the last (today) of the week's journey the programme made across the Highlands, and having listened carefully to the whole of today's programme I have to commend it for atmosphere, Petroc's commentary and the choice of music and live guests. I know Breakfast has done this kind of thing before, but I've never paid much attention to it. So well done the Brekfast Team.

Agreed. I'm still catching up with the programmes from earlier in the week and they're all excellent radio listening.

It will be James Loughran's 91st birthday on Thursday - he was born 30 June 1931. I wonder if the Breakfast producer will fit something in to mark the day, maybe some jolly polka from the "Viennese Night with the Halle Orchestra" CD.

I’m sure if you email Petroc he will do something suitable.

Regarding the trails debate- the reason they don't work on me is that they so annoy me I stop listening to programmes that host them in quantity - sorry Petroc.

James Loughran's birthday today wasn't mentioned on Breakfast, though Esa-Pekka Salonen's was. However, Loughran's 91st birthday was noted with a YouTube upload from a 'Viennese Night' at the Proms. This was all but ruined by those exhibitionist idiots in the arena, clearly less interested in music than in getting themselves on the telly ...

My ipad delivered its usual gap instead of the youtube link, but I did email 3breakfast but like most emails to BBC was ignored. No surprise JL seems to have been forgotten by the BBC for years despite many very good recordings - no doubt his many performances with BBC orchestras have been wiped or taped over!

Unlikely because archive recordings of classical music aren’t wiped or taped Over. Video tape used to suffer this fate as the tape was so expensive. Believe it or not the wiping was at the discretion of the exec producer which led (it is said )to the complete Val Doonican series being kept
While Pete and Dud were wiped. The problem with archive music is usually more
                        To do with rights issues.

I have tweeted Ms, or rather Mrs, Alker, more in hope than expectation ……

Do you think there might be a better chance with Martin Handley on Sunday? At least, he would know who JL is, and remember his past presence on the BBC.........

Ownership probably a problem as didn’t the Beeb sell off a lot of their recordings in the 80s or 90s.
I keep hoping, probably in vain, that some of Bryden Thomson’s recordings of Dvorak Symphonies and RVW Job will see the light of day again. BBC recordings which are made available commercially seem to be by the big names and the conductors who were the ‘bread and butter’ performers over the years get forgotten.

It may work - Lizzie is keen to communicate with her listeners. I maybe should have bigged up a Cornwall connection with Petroc, but then again it probably wouldn’t have made an haporth of difference.
