Great to hear some Laura Nyro on Breakfast just now. Now just waiting for Martin Handley to correct the pronunciation of her surname to Nero, as is widely known. And then to play some more.

Heard a bit of this, I assume rather a rarity, and enjoyed what I heard. According to Catriona, it was played at Beethoven's funeral - and perhaps it deserves to be better known.

Hannah French adopting a slightly reverential tone throughout the programme. Do we need this from broadcasters?

Probably not but it is Ash Wednesday* (cue that piece) so perhaps she feels a bit of gravitas is in order. She hasn't been sounding herself, voicewise, the past two days, better today but on Monday I didn't at first realise it was her speaking.

          * I only ever took part 3 times back in the 70s but the imposition of ashes service at 6am made an abiding impression on me.

I thought this work was mentioned in the TV (Auto) Biography of Bernard Haitink:

"Haitink first attracted attention when in 1956 he substituted for Carlo Maria Giulini in a performance of Cherubini’s Requiem with the Concertgebouw Orchestra....."
            https://www.naxos.com/person/Bernard_Haitink/32245.htm

IIRC, you agree with Haitink who recalled it was not a bad piece of music (although he hadn't conducted it in his later career).

Not listening, but I'd say yes. It's an anxious moment for the west and if I were listening and felt the BBC was doing its best to lift my spirits I'd switch off. If I were listening …
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I have no problem with that - she appears to be a gentle person and her sensitivity to the current situation matches that!

I think I must have missed that, but looking at the schedule (to try and work out a name) and then following up I came across this

Very interesting. On Saturday morning as I was driving to Redruth to take part in the St Piran’s Day celebrations in Redruth the Radio Cornwall 6-10am slot closed with a medley of Cornish tunes on piano - played by Steve Rosenberg!

While showering ~7:30, Hannah French played Byrd's "O God that guides the cheerful sun" - it really cheered me up on this sunny morning.
But, looking at the R3 listings, it was the first piece at ~6:30 - what happened? Are the IT gremlins at work?
I think Bridge's Valse intermezzo started Breakfast.

                        Here's the listing ~8:15am

                        Earl Wild has appeared ~8:26.

Rather brings to mind a certain comedy sketch about notes and right order?

                            With Mr Preview?

It's now Porpora who started Breakfast. I checked the TTN off-air and it was definitely Bridge.
I wanted to know which CD the Byrd was from... but now I'm just confused.

                              Found the Byrd CD.

Mendelssohn has now appeared... The gremlins are working overtime.

The TtN playlist is somewhat confused as well: the first two items (Kyurkchiyski and Poulenc) were actually the last two. Furthermore, the Sounds page puts these at the beginning, but reverses their order. If your browser can read json script, a look at this puts the Kyurkchiyski and Poulenc at the beginning, as items 0 and 1 but their 'version offsets' (in seconds) seem to be correct, placing them over 5 hours after the beginning; 19067 and 20311 seconds respectively.

Getting back to Breakfast, the json script has the items in the wrong order, but again the offsets are probably correct: the Bridge is item 4 at 137 seconds and the Byrd is item 0 at 3913 seconds

(This is going to play havoc with my database. I wonder how long it's been going on - will have to check.)
