Radio 'accidentally' on this morning while getting up, as I don't usually have anything on (in both senses, ).
    Too much information!

Do we really need to know what you do, or don't listen to in the morning?

Well, other people tweet to say what they and the family animals are doing, so why not?

I was equally surprised to hear a whole sonnet read out: surely that's far too many lines to try to absorb at this time of day.

He'd played Hough's version of Moscow Nights earlier, which included the opening chords of the concerto. That was the context for the 'complete second movement' reference.

          That makes more sense.

I enjoyed it. And, as PT said, it's the anniversary of his birth, so I can't see why he should be begrudged c 3 minutes of airtime.

I keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!

I would have preferred something from his score for 'Battle of Britain', but perhaps '633 Squadron' fitted better into the time slot available.

On a more positive note, I really enjoyed hearing hearing Boellmann's Toccata again. Having not heard it for a very long time, I'd almost forgotten it, but it was a favourite of mine as a teenager in the 1970s on an LP called The King of Instruments. Maybe I was a Goth before it became fashionable.
Were these pieces included in 'Breakfast'?

Oops, one has to be very careful when posting on this forum. Of course, it was during Essential Classics, but I was having my breakfast at the time so that's my excuse.

Is there an Essential Classics thread? I made a quick search and couldn't find one but if so maybe my posting could be moved by a kind moderator?

'Essential Classics - The Continuing Debate'. Enter 'Essential Classics' in the 'Advanced Search' box (top right-hand corner) then scroll down the list of threads that then appears.
I've reached that stage of life when I can nod off at any time of day, which was why I wondered whether I'd missed these two pieces! (I rarely listen to Essential Classics, and certainly not when Schoolmarm is presenting! )

Thanks, LMcD. I'm still fairly new to this forum and I'm finding my way around. I've moved it myself to the appropriate place.

The distinctions between the two get blurred and mistooks happen. I think the fact that there isn't really that much difference doesn't help - the morning schedule is pretty homogenous now from 6-30 to 12, with only the change of presenter at 9am marking a transition.

You've got a long way to go before you clock up as many mistakes as I've made . I look forward to reading more messages from you.

Good point. Indeed the same is true of the transition from TTN to Breakfast. The last TTN item is usually of a more 'popular' nature, and the presenter makes only the pre-annnouncement, leaving the back announcement to the Breakfast presenter. Similarly there is no news at 0900, allowing a seamless transition to EC.
