Talking England, not UK, Meriden is spot on, unless you do not include Cornwall in which case you may have to move a liitle further North-left, probably not quite correct, but it would be nice to think that would be Ashby de la Zouche!

People tend to migrate towards the capital, wherever it is.
The point about Lancaster is that it's one of the best places in terms of proximity to the 4 countries of the UK (though the top of Snaefel, IOM would be better, but the Isle of Man is crown dependency, and not part of the UK).
