However, no doubt they will all be back once the news announcers can return I assume five news bulletins is part of the breakfast schtick, in the view of the suits.
Now if we could have just the one morning bulletin, given by R3 newsreaders... I agree that the current arrangement has improved the flow of the Breakfast programme, not least in my view because the half hour set-up always seems to involve an advert as well, further constraining the music layout. And yes, the weather 'forecasts', untethered as they are, seem rather (even more) pointless.

      Antony Hopkins CBE (21 March 1921 – 6 May 2014)
Just honoured on Breakfast with the broadcast of three pieces of his music*. He was a really important (virtual) part of my musical education as a teenager.

A Humble Song to the Birds: You need not peep
Performer: Janet Simpson. Singer: James Gilchrist.

      Jig: Vivace (Suite)
Performer: John Turner. Performer: Janet Simpson.

      Tango
      Performer: Philip Fowke.

      *Possibly more to come?

Too much Breakfast to trawl through to reach those pieces, I'm afraid.

Starts with the intro at 1h 39m, Serial. It's still fiddly but if you start the recording you do get an indication as to which piece is playing (red pulsing lines) and can use the slider. Hope whoever noted that it was his centenary will be willing to move to Salford. PT's choices don't seem to have the awful genre clashes
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

And they were all played as a group so it's only finding the start that's the issue.

Any views on the birdsong recognition feature on Sundays? So far nothing new to me; but I'm hoping some avian puzzles will be untangled in coming weeks....

I've enjoyed the two so far, and think they are well done. Whether it's R3 might be another issue but as it's in Breakfast perhaps not so much of one, and at least it isn't out of the blue since Sounds of the Earth is (was - is this a replacement?) almost entirely birdsong.

Same here.... but haven't they temporarily dropped the 'bells' in favour of this...? Anyway I think the 'lesson' is for the next 10 (?) weeks.

                      Ominous...

...IIRC birdsong was used as a test transmission prior to the commencement of programmed transmissions on CFM!

Perhaps it's a Baldrickian plan to increase the number of tweets from Radio 3 listeners.

I would like to nominate the entire Breakfast team for the inaugural 'Playing-A-Movement-From-a-Mahler-Symphony-Other-Than-THAT-Adagietto' medal.

Getting a wee bit concerned by the regular insistence that SK says she is playing 'my favourite this / that'.
                                Why such personalisation / ownership?
Might it not have exactly the opposite impact on including listeners i.e. 'well, mate it may be yours but it ain't mine, so hoppit!'
