    no mention of the Charts
isn't that just a Tuesday thing?
with Petroc taking over the weather bulletin and giving us news headlines every 15 minutes I really don't see why that other man needs to be there at all (unless it's in case the main presenter falls ill)
really looking forward to today's chosen phone call <rubbing-hands emoticon> ............ a really lovely story from Margaret about her visit to the Mendelssohn Festival on the Isle of Mull and the Chilingirian Quartet (+) playing the Trout Quintet at Sir Charles Maclean's castle and how she had to sit on the billiard table and somebody's phone went off and a quartet member said "wrong key" ........all quite amusing

Perhaps Petroc has taken note of the adverse comments?
I suspect Petroc, being a chap, was sent in to bat first to see what reaction there would be to the new 'style'. At least Sara will know what to expect and I expect there will be a certain amount of rethinking behind the scenes.

The danger is that there will be a retreat on Breakfast but the strategy to target Radio 3 on people who aren't yet listening - but might listen, with suitable encouragement - will continue.

The aims and methods of Radio 3 should, in my view, be completely reconsidered. Preferably taking its existing listeners' views into account.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I generally only listen to Breakfast by mistake, in that if I have been listening to composer of the week when I get home from work, and turn the radio on when setting off for work I receive Breakfast by default. It rarely lasts longer than 5 minutes.

Although I do not personally like Petroc as an announcer, this morning having listened to Nielsen last night, on turning on I enjoyed at the Mendelssohn overture played complete, and the links to the Kat'a Kabanova performance were delivered in a sensible non gushy way which actually made me regret that I could not hear the broadcast.

I thought are things changing for the better via the unlikely medium of Petroc, but then Leroy Anderson, back to Radio 4, but I managed a full 14 minutes which is a record in recent years.

Not that I enjoy Radio 4 much more, shame my car does not have long wave, RTE news from Dublin always delivered in a slow relaxed manner often cast a different view on world events as well as the amusing traffic problems always the Blue Cow roundabout if I recall correctly

In many ways, the increase of news bulletins from every hour to every 30 minutes, some years ago, was the thin end of the wedge which we are now seeing in much greater thickness. There are surely enough other channels for those who can't exist for such a short time without checking up on SB's antics, as you rightly say.

I remember emailing R3 at that time, and getting a typically bland dismissive reply.

I prefer it when they pick out cultural items. PT mentioned Cornwall's new whiskey this morning. It was irrelevant but fortunately not politics. He then said that it cost, quote, "one hundred and fifty quid". He is clearly throwing himself into it all with enthusiasm.

Less so, I think, Sarah Walker who sounds keen about the music but irritated or awkward about the format of Essential Classics. In fact, she was flustered when asked in the preview when she was going to play a piece she had mentioned. "Oh, erm, during this morning" she said, before adding "between 9 and 10". That was hardly much of an improvement.

                  John,

It's presented in a similar way to Dust to Digital's ' Goodbye Babylon ' box set.
I know which one I'd prefer to receive ....

                  ( Actually, mine arrived a few xmas's ago )

PS. That Whitt Denson is a D to D recording star. How long before we hear him on the nation's quietest ?

That 'Goodbye Babylon' would be an excellent addition to anybody's Muesli Paul.

I hope she's irritated by the format - I am. She has played some good stuff this week, however.

Well they're trying to attract some extra listeners, Paul and this would give a helping hand from on high.

Oh dear!! I've just come back from my holiday in beautiful Kefalonia and my clock radio comes on at 6am so I can lie in bed and enjoy the last hour of "Through the Night" before getting up, but SHOCK HORROR - it came to an abrubt halt at 6.30 with no friendly closing announcement! (I presume they've just chopped off the last 30 mins) I don't actually mind Petroc T, but, as mentioned in other blogs the tweets and phone-ins urgh!!!! I'll just have to get up half an hour earlier. Andy

It hasn't been shortened, but now starts at 0030 instead of 0100.
